The 2018 Nordic Vortex Tri-Gun is just around the corner. The stage designs are set and we are excited to get them on the ground starting this weekend. Here are some updates:
• Saturday June 16th – Tuesday June 19th: Set-Up and stage building. We ask that competitors stay off the range grounds.
• Wednesday June 20th: Match Staff will begin shooting the stages.
• Thursday June 21st: Match Staff will finish shooting the stages. Competitor Registration Check-In starts at 2 at the Main Clubhouse (Gate 2) and competitors can start walking the stages after checking in. On stages where the Match Staff is currently shooting or preparing to shoot, competitors shall yield to them and move out of the stage.
• Friday June 22nd: Last minute registration check in will begin at 6AM. All competitors must be at their 1st stage at 7:45AM ready to start. There will be no shooter’s meeting or opening ceremony.
Round Count is subject to change once the stage designs are actually built. Currently, the round counts are:
• Rifle: 187
• Pistol: 177
• Shotgun Birdshot: 148
• Shotgun Slugs: 8
• Optional Rifle/Pistol: 8
• Optional Pistol/Shotgun Birdshot: 8
There will be 3 single gun stages for each of the 3 guns. These will be high round count stages, upwards to 50 rounds each. Be prepared to have the necessary equipment (i.e. shell holders). Slings will not be needed this year.
I-35 at Forest Lake is under construction. There will be lane shifting and lanes divided by barriers that could change at any time. Please pay attention to the signs as you approach the Forest Lake exit. Currently for northbound I-35 (from the cities), the lanes split with divider barriers. One side will have access to the exit ramps, the other will be a bypass with the next exit about 5 miles past Forest Lake. This can change, so please watch the signs.
The match will be using the entire range. There are 3 gates for the 3 areas of the range where the stages will be. Parking at Gate 1 and 2 will be close to the stages. Parking at the Gate 3 is also close with the farthest stage about a 200 yard walk from the parking lot. No one is allowed to use a motorized vehicle of any kind on the access road to the bays except for the Match Staff and pre-approved competitors (based on physical needs). The access road runs right long the shooting bays and it can get very dusty. If a competitor has a need to use a motorized vehicle, please send Jomar and email at Jomar.MN3GG@gmail with your request and reason.
Please review the match rules. One recent change was made that affects the scoring of paper targets. With the recent change of USPSA targets no longer having the “B” zone (head shot), we have now made the one hit neutralization to just the “A” zone only (center mass or critical head area).
That is all for now. Please email us if you have any questions. See you at the range.

The 2018 match schedule is posted and includes the squad schedule. The on-line squadding will open on Tuesday, May 29th, at 7:00 PM US Central Time. There will be a total of 18 squads with 12 shooters each. When it opens, it is first come first serve basis. It will be up to each of you to choose a squad. Those not squadded within a week or two before the match will be placed in an open squad of our choosing. To squad, go to your Practiscore Personal Match Management Page.
The February 1st opening of the registration for the 2018 Nordic Vortex Tri-Gun is just around the corner. This match has become a premier event, and it shows with the match filling up immediately after the registrations open. Last year, the match filled within 5 minutes of opening the registrations. We’re sure it will happen again this year.
In appreciation the few shooter who have shot our match for the past 3 consecutive years (2015, 2016, and 2017) and continue to support us in making the Tri-Gun the premier event, early registrations invitations have been sent to them. The invitation is only available for a limited time so check your emails as soon as possible.
The match fee is $250 for adults and $125 for juniors (17 or younger at match date). Included with the match fee is a match t-shirt and 3 lunch tickets. There are two payment options available:
1) ON-LINE using a debit/credit card with additional usage fee. Adult match fee is $250 plus $7.55 usage fee for a total of $257.55. Juniors fee is $125 plus $3.93 usage fee for a total of $128.30. Unfortunately, the system only allows us to charge one fee so it will be the adult fee. If a junior fee is paid on-line, send a message to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will refund the difference.
2) MAIL-IN by printing this email and mailing it with your match fee payment of $250 ($125 for juniors). Please make the check payable to “MN3GG” and mail to:
P.O. Box 29844
Minneapolis, MN 55429
PAYMENT MUST BE RECEIVED WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF THE DATE YOU REGISTERED, or your registration will be rotated to the rear of the waiting list. Self-squadding will open at a later date to be announced. Match information and rules are on the match website http://nordicvortextrigun.com/.
Match slots will be limited so we could maintain the same quality match (and generous prize table). The match reached full capacity with a waiting list in the past 5 years, with last year’s match filling within 4 minutes and 42 seconds of opening. It will likely fill fast again so plan accordingly to get your best chances of getting in.
We want to thank all of those who have supported and participated in our match these past years and helped us make our event a premier match. To show our appreciation, we will once again open the registration in two rounds.
The 1st round of registrations will open in mid-January and WILL ONLY be for those who participated in our match for the past THREE consecutive years (2015, 2016, and 2017). There are a limited amount of shooters who qualify and they will receive their early registration invitations through email in early January. This 1st round of registration will only be open for a limited time.
The 2nd round of registrations will open up on Thursday, February 1st at 8PM Central Time. The 2nd round registration will be done through Practiscore Match Managament. The process of this registration is:
1. Fill out the match registration form.
2. You will receive an automated email stating that you are registered. Print this out and mail it in with your match fee payment.
3. Payment must be received within two weeks of the date you registered.
4. When payment is received, you will receive a match confirmation email with links to your own personal match management page.
Once the match fills, a waiting list will automatically be started and will be based on the order you registered. Self-Squadding for approved shooters will open at a later date to be announced.
We are excited for this match and we have a lot of things planned. We have all the intentions of keeping the reputation of this match as a premier match. Match information and updates will be posted on the Match Website and the Match Facebook Page. Limited updates will be posted on the Enos Forum.
We’ve updated the match rules for both the Nordic Vortex Tri-Gun to maintain a consistent and fair match. The updated match rules are posted on the match website. Updates are mostly to address already common prohibited practices and prohibited items.
The 2017 Tri-Gun Match Round Countis in. We have a number of stages that have optional targets that may be engaged by more than one type of firearm. There will be no shotgun buckshot used this year.
Plan for a shotgun-only stage with a round count around 50, and a handgun-only stage with a round count of about 60.
Squadding is self-assigning on Practiscore and are 1st come 1st serve basis. Log into your Personal Match Management Page to sign up to a squad. Shooters who have not selected a squad will be placed on an open squad by the Match Officials before the match starts. Once placed, the shooter cannot move to another squad.
Rifle slings will be needed, but no shotgun slings this year.
Motorized vehicles will be restricted in the Gate 3 Bays to match staff only due to the dust as well as crowd barriers being used on the road for stages using multiple bays. Special considerations will be given to shooters with limited mobility who submit a request by email to the Match Directors. Distance from the parking lot to the furthermost stage is only about 150 yards. Push/pull carts are allowed.
Please review the 2017 Tri-Gun Match Schedule. There will be no Shooters’ Meeting in the morning of the 1stday of the match. A Match Director Briefing will be sent out electronically to all the shooters, as well as presented by the Range Officers at your first stage of the match.
The range closures for the match will begin on Saturday, June 17th.
Gate 3 and the competition bays in Gate 2 are off-limits to everyone but the match staff setting up the stages.
Gate 1 bays will be shut down beginning on Monday, June 19thfor the 2A Heritage 3-Gun Junior Camp we and the Forest Lake Sportsmen’s Club are proud to be a host of.
The range will be open on Thursday, June 22ndat 9AM. Shooters can inspect the stages, but must yield to the Match Staff who are shooting the stages. Registration check-in will be open from 2PM to 7Pm at the main clubhouse at Gate 2. A short bay will be available for sight-in from 2PM to 7PM for shooters that have completed the registration check-in. Registration check-in will continue on Friday, June 23rd from 6AM to 7AM.
We’ve updated the match rules for both the Nordic Vortex Tri-Gun to maintain a consistent and fair match. Updates include:
Language prohibiting raised fault lines from being crossed or stepped over.
Language about the “Intent of the Stage Design” (gamer rule) to allow Match Officials to establish prohibited actions. This would help prevent a stage having to be thrown out.
Language prohibiting illegal firearms and restrictions against use of full-auto or burst-fire in a match.
Language to prohibit certain devices on firearms, most of which are devices already not commonly used, with the exception of suppressors (silencers) used by a very few.
Suppressors (silencers) will no longer be allowed due to the difficulties of a getting a shot timer to consistently register the shots. There’s been instances of inconsistent stage times due to failures of the shot timer to pick up the last shots of a suppressed firearm that has brought about re-shoots and disputes about correct scores being recorded. There has also been instances of unsafe situations where a range officer had to quickly get very close to a moving shooter to record the last shot on the shot timer. All of our matches are scored using a shot timer to record the last shot fired. To maintain a consistent, fair, and safe match, we made the decision to no longer allow the use of suppressors.
The on-line squadding will open on Tuesday, May 23rd, at 7:00 PM US Central Time. There will be a total of 18 squads with 12 shooters each. When it opens, it is first come first serve basis. It will be up to each of you to choose a squad. Those not squadded within a week or two before the match will be placed in an open squad of our choosing.
To squad, go to your Personal Match Management Page. Send Jomar an email at Jomar.MN3GG@gmail.com if you need to have the link to your page re-sent to you.
4 minutes and 42 seconds was how long (or should I say how fast) the open slots went yesterday after registrations opened at noon. Our heads are still spinning and I’m still sorting through all the registrations. We have shooters from as far north as Canada, as far south as Texas, as far west as California, and as far east as Virginia.
We’re proud of how this match has grown, and we promise not to disappoint. We have a lot of things in the works, including some exciting side matches for the restless shooters. Stay tuned for updates.
For the shooters on the waiting list, stay hopeful. We blocked off numerous slots for the match sponsors who generously donate to our great prize table. Any unused slots will eventually be opened up to the shooters on the waiting list. We make it a point to try to get as much people into the match without sacrificing the quality of the match.

I have had a chance to get some sleep over the last few nights. I want to once again extend my thank you to all of you, the shooters, who took part in this event. The demand for the event from you the shooter makes this all possible. I hope some of the little things like having lunch built in, the beer garden, and the Pizza Feed provided by Nordic Components, Vortex Optics and the MN3GG made for a great match experience.
Overall the event, as a whole, ran smooth. The usual match problems occurred but nothing crazy. I appreciate everyone’s ability to adapt to the changing schedule with the pending storm. A little crazy that we never got more than high winds and a few drops of rain. That storm missed us by a couple miles at the most.
I am super grateful for all the work that the RO’s did to make the match successful. We had people onsite, every day, working on stages and props since the Saturday prior to the match. Many other things had been done at the range in the month leading up as well as Forest Lake Sportsman’s Club adding the new bays were stage 9 took place.
Our sponsors were outstanding. Nordic Components and Vortex Optics were a great team to have in place as we made this transition. I was amazed at the prize table when it was finally laid out. Sponsors are really important to a major match. That is why we recommend many times to you, the shooters, please contact them and thank them for their generous donations. Due to the large numbers of products many of you received items from multiple sponsors. Try to hit up a few of them, even if you did not get an item from them. Please consider them for your additional needs as well. Take a look below at the hyperlinks to send out quick messages.
We are just 2 weeks away from the Nordic Vortex Tri-Gun. Out stage designs are finalized and our prize table donations are looking very generous thanks to the supportive match sponsors. Please check out the Match Sponsor page on our website.
We have some exciting and challenging stages planned which we will begin building next weekend. Building the stages will be done over a few days in different areas of the range due to other events. With that, shooters can check out the stages when they are completely built. For the stages still under construction, please give way to our volunteer match staff who is working hard to make this event possible.
Match registration check-in will begin on Thursday June 23rd from 2PM to 7PM at the Main club house. Shooters will receive their match booklets and lunch tickets during check-in. Shooters may walk the stages, but must yield to the volunteer match staff who are shooting all 9 stages in 1 day.
Late check-in will be the morning of the 1st day of the match on Friday June 24th from 6AM to 7AMat the Main club house. A short shooters’ meeting will be held at the main clubhouse at 7:30AMbefore everyone heads to their assigned stages.
Lunch is provided for all 3 match days outside the main clubhouse by the Forest Lake High School Trap Team. Additional lunches are available for purchase.
We will have a side shotgun match with 4 stages and a round count of 60 birdshots. The match fee will be $20 and will have its own separate prizes. The side shotgun match is only open to registered Tri-Gun shooters, and shooters will be able to shoot the side shotgun match stages at any time between their Tri-Gun stages and after the Tri-Gun match is done for the day. The side shotgun match will follow the same match rules of the Tri-Gun. There will be 3 divisions: Open, Tactical, and Pump. Shooters can only shoot in 1 division, and may shoot any division provided their shotgun meets the division requirement.
We’re looking forward to seeing all of you very soon.
– Self-quadding is done on-line through Practiscore. You can access the squadding through your Personal Match Management Page. If you need the link to your page again, please contact me at email@example.com.
– Squadding is first come first serve basis. Once your payment is received, your status will be updated to “Approved” and you will be able to self squad at that time.
– The squad schedule is not finalized yet, but will likely be alternating on/off stage basis, meaning, one group of squads shoots the stages, then breaks as the next group of squads shoots the stages.
The match filled in 20 minutes!!! And the waiting list has started.
For those on the waiting list, stay very hopeful. We blocked off a number of shooter slots for the match sponsors who contribute greatly to the prize table. As we get closer to the match date, any unused blocked off slots will be opened to those in the waiting list in the order they registered. So the only way to get those slots is to get on the wait list.
Invitations to the 1st Round Registrations has been emailed to those who have shot the Nordic match every year the past 3 years. This 1st round of registration will only be open until February 5th. If you qualify for the 1st Round and did not get an invitation email, send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The 2nd round of registrations will open up on Sunday, February 7th at 12:00 PM CST and will be for everyone. The 2nd round registration will be done through Practiscore Match Management. A link to the registration will be posted a few days before it opens.
